We're creating a new oak woodland at Westmoorgate, near Trewint, Cornwall, using acorns we gathered in semi-natural ancient woods in Cornwall and Devon, along with other native species such as hazel, alder and beech - also grown from local seed.
Beautiful acorns from the bumper crop in Autumn 2022. Many of these are now little trees in the ground - with others in our two mini-nurseries.
Germinated and ready to plant..
We will be planting around 500 more trees this winter (2024/5), with help from some fellow tree lovers we've met nearby - as well as ongoing support from our friends and colleagues at Cornwall Music Service Trust.
We're teaming up with a lot of enthusiastic young naturalists from Cornish schools.
Several local schools are due to visit Symphony Woods over this coming winter.
We've been sad to see the felling of many mature hedgerow trees in this area of late and are determined to stage a nature fight-back! We're lucky to have been given the support of some far-sighted patrons, who have provided the land and allowed our project to be born.
The woodland's name comes from our passion for music - and a desire for having musical workshops and performances at this beautiful new location.
We are currently launching a new project with Cornwall Music Service Trust, Launceston Council and others to work with local young people to compose a symphony inspired by visits to the new woods - more on this soon!
What could be more worthwhile than creating a wood that could last a thousand years?
