We have a real passion for sharing world music with young people through join-in singing and percussion workshops and our own performances. We bring infectious music from four continents, our TIS-trained, DBS-compliant teachers having spent many years living and working in other parts of the world.
We've been working with a combined group of primary and secondary children in two St.Just schools, creating stronger ties, while helping the younger pupils to prepare for their next steps
Our mixed-age music sessions have taken us to Brazil, Madagascar, Nigeria, Ukraine, South Africa and to an original Cornish song.
Both schools have recently welcomed displaced young people from the Ukraine, who were included in our sessions as part of helping them to settle into their new community,
A short film on some some music we made with a group of teenaged asylum seekers at Cornwall College in 2023. Funded by Art Lab.
More of our recent work with two Cornish primary schools to create musical messages of hope and solidarity to share with children in Bangladesh and Brazil - two countries severely affected by the climate crisis. With support from the Asone Hub
In 2022 we worked with various primary schools to involve pupils in designing, assembling, installing and enjoying a range of musical instruments around their school grounds, mostly using repurposed materials. With support from FEAST's Arts Lab programme.
Here's a film we just made (May 2023 )with a brilliant sister project in Launceston. A group of parents and children have been having fun immersing in music, dance and culture from different parts of the world. Here's their work on the theme "These Shoes" - partnered with a community project in Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa
We worked with three Cornish primary schools to compose and perform an original shanty conveying their message to the COP26 climate summit delegates in November 2021.
The project was featured on Spotlight Southwest and the film received over 3500 facebook likes/loves in one week from around the world.
These activities led on to our Messages of Hope project (see above)
